Cheerful Winter Decorating Ideas
Hello 2019!! It’s my first post of the new year and I’ve got some Cheerful Winter Decorating Ideas coming your way. I’ve been hearing so many of you say you’ve been feeling those winter blues and I’ve been right there with you! The clean slate of the new year can be both exciting and daunting. With the joy of the holidays behind us and depressing January weather, we’re often left feeling tired, unmotivated and just plain sad. Now that the Christmas decor is put away (or most of it is anyways) your home may be feeling plain and uninspiring. I’ve got some simple tips to add life and colour back into your decor and your mood!

Cheerful winter decorating ideas: Live plants
I often move my houseplants to a different location during the holidays as the Christmas trees need a home. Moving them back in feels so good and I love the fresh green vibe. You may want to add a new plant or update your pots or baskets for a fresh look.
See what I mean!!! So fresh and full of life.
cheerful winter decorating: Lighting
Winter is a great time to think about your lighting! Adding a new table or floor lamp to increase the brightness on grey gloomy days can really make a big difference. You can also consider moving existing lamps around to add lighting where you need it most.
cheerful winter decorating ideas: Spring flowers
If fresh spring flowers are available in your area at this time of year then go for it! Tulips are especially cheerful (and cheap) and instantly add a fresh pop of colour to your decor. For more about decorating with tulips you can see my post Styling With Tulips Hyacinth and daffodils are also beautiful. This is where winter decor transitions to spring decor and reminds us it’s not far away!
If fresh spring flowers aren’t available in your area, hit up your local craft or dollar store for some faux blooms and get creative!
cheerful winter decorating ideas: cozy throws and pillows
If you’re having a cozy night (or day) at home binge watching Marie Kondo on Netflix, you might as well be cozy! Adding extra pillows and throws is easy peasy and adds comfort and luxury to your space. Try a patterned throw for visual interest and look for luxurious fabrics like linen and velvet. Fleece is great for added warmth.

cheerful winter decorating ideas: tropical wall art
I added this pineapple print in the bedroom and love how fresh it feels in here. While I’m not ready for full on summer decorating just yet, the pineapple is unexpected and reminds me of family vacays in warmer destinations.

cheerful winter decorating ideas: Use a diffuser
Diffusing essential oils is a great way to help with sleep, energy and mood. Experiment with scents and find the ones that make you feel good. These are a couple of my faves.
Almond Cookie Diffuser Blend: k’pure
Liquid Sunshine Diffuser Blend: Saje Natural Wellness
When I think of winter decor, I think of fresh and bright. I think it’s because it lifts me up when I’m feeling down. I hope you try some of my Cheerful Winter Decorating Ideas in your home and feel uplifted too. I’ve linked some items for your convenience below:
