Summer is in full swing over here and for us that means trips to our family’s beach cottage on the coast. I was so happy when my solar mason jar lanterns from Sonnenglas arrived just in time to take with me! These lanterns, made in South Africa, are a traditional mason jar with a lid that has 4 solar LED lights that charge in direct sunlight. At night, engage the magnetic switch and they give off a beautiful clear, bright light. You can leave them empty or get creative and fill them with what suits your decorating style or entertaining theme. Solar mason jar decorating is a fun way to personalize your outdoor space, and I’m excited to show you how I used them on our deck at the cottage!
First I set them out to charge in the sun ☀️
I filled them with some of my favourite things at the cottage…beach glass and shells. I like how they look tucked into plants and placed here and there. Even during the day they are beautiful!
It was fun filling them with beach treasures, and finding spots to add that special touch to. The hardest part was waiting for the sun to go down! 😂
Finally night was falling and I couldn’t wait to turn them all on! What a beautiful glow to enjoy with our lovely view! ✨✨ The magnetic switch is brilliant as they will only light up if it’s engaged. No draining the solar LED’s if you’re not using them.
Styling the lanterns individually adds instant glow wherever you need it. Grouping them together can complement a tablescape or light a walkway or set of stairs beautifully. I love the subtle ambiance they added to our outdoor table too. The perfect spot to relax at the end of the day!
These lanterns have so many possibilities! Whether you fill them with your own treasures or simply let their light shine, they are a magical addition to any deck, patio or outdoor space. I’ll be styling them at home too, so stay tuned for more inspiration! You can get your own Sonnenglas and receive free shipping by clicking HERE if you are in Canada or HERE if you are in the US.
Love sharing this special place with all of you! Almost a year ago we celebrated my in-law’s 50th Anniversary right here with a special all-white celebration. You can view all the pretty details HERE
Hope your summer has been amazing so far! Stay tuned for some summer beauty faves, an outdoor tablescape and some summer recipes coming to the blog soon!
