Summer Porch & Succulent DIY
Welcome back friends, it’s been a busy week for me on the blog! If this is your first time here, I’m so happy you’ve stopped by. Glad you’re joining us today for our outdoor blog hop, I just know your going to get some fabulous ideas! When do you set up your outdoor space for Summer? May is typically when we do it, but we were blessed with some unseasonably warm weather in April and that means I got a jump on setting up my Summer porch. I even put together a super easy succulent DIY that I can’t wait to show you, so let’s get started!
The newest addition to our front porch is this stunning Ligustrum japonica. We had one in the garden by our front door at our previous house and ever since we moved here I’ve wanted one. I think it adds both structure and interest with its large size and glossy green leaves. It’s blooming with little white flowers that smell lovely right now and in the Fall we’ll trim it into more of a topiary shape.
Do you recognize this galvanized container from my Spring door decor DIY? To see how I created it click HERE I’ve switched it up for Summer (like you knew I would) by adding a couple of potted kalanchoes. They are actually a flowering succulent and commonly an indoor plant, but do very well outside in warmer temperatures. I just pop them in and out to water when necessary. I really love this fresh alternative to a faux wreath on the front door! I also switched out the ribbon to this lighter, whimsical cactus print.
I wanted to have a pop of colour amongst all the green and white so I chose these pink geraniums for my tall planter. Geraniums are my absolute favourite container plant for the Summer because they are so hardy and I always have success with them! The potato vines are another favourite as I love the contrast of their Chartreuse colour.
Last year we added these folding chairs out here and I love how now we have this extra little spot to have morning coffee or a glass of wine. They’re also the perfect place to showcase a couple of my new pillows from my collaboration with Pillow Fight Factory. Click HERE to view or shop the Summer capsule collection. I consider them indoor/outdoor pillows: indoor pillows that I place outdoors when I want things to look extra pretty.
Peeking behind the chairs is my succulent DIY I’ve been looking forward to sharing with you! I chose three succulent plants and pots to match and placed them in the centre of this galvanized tray. Then I used these rocks from Michael’s to fill in the base of the tray, creating a mini succulent garden. I told you it was easy 😂 You can also add a strand of LED lights at night for a pretty glow, perfect for entertaining! I’ll show you that a bit later on.
Remember what I said about the perfect place to sit and have coffee? The new addition of this garden stool gives us a place for drinks or goodies. Looks like Kellogg has his eye on those croissants, but I think my sneaky new garden gnome has its eyes on Kellogg!
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my front porch decorated for Summer. In the next few weeks we’ll be getting a new fence and deck in the backyard, and then I’ll have another outdoor space to decorate and share with you. Be sure to check out all the posts on the tour today for even more inspiration!
