Fall/Thanksgiving Tablescape DIY
So last week we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving and even though I wasn’t hosting dinner this year, I love the feel of a festive table so I decided to create a tablescape anyway. Of course the family made lots of jokes about when or if dinner was actually going to be served in there!
The centrepiece is a great place to start! The base is actually a charger from Pier 1 that I already had, but I often use it as a tray. Using items in unexpected ways can make a dramatic statement and also add a very personal touch. When creating a tablescape, I like to think about what items I already have on hand. Then I’m only purchasing a few new items (which my hubby likes ☺️) and adding in seasonal decor. I picked up the faux blooms from HomeSense and pumpkins etc. from Michaels. I kept it all faux so the table would look great through the fall season and added in fresh touches for Thanksgiving weekend.
I kept each place setting simple but festive. These napkins were purchased last year from Chapters Indigo and I think they make the perfect Thanksgiving table statement! A single white pumpkin atop each one completes the look. No need to overdo it..sometimes less really is more.
For Thanksgiving I added in a few more candles, some fresh blooms in milk glass and these gorgeous orange autumn berries. Love how these fresh touches really pulled it all together! You’ll notice how I kept my whole tablescape height on the low side. Not only is it well suited for conversation (nothing worse than trying to talk to someone across the table with flowers in the way) it keeps the sightlines open if your living room or family room are adjacent like mine. It’s also kid friendly and reduces the risk of things getting knocked over once the food starts getting passed around 😉And, I just really love the clean, simple look of it!
We eventually did eat dinner in here on Thanksgiving Monday. Since we celebrated with family on Saturday and Sunday, we had a casual meal (what else, turkey leftovers ☺️). Having this lovely table all set made it extra special! And of course, anytime I’m around the table with my 3 favourite people I’m grateful for that ❤️️
This week I’ll be doing a bit of decorating for Halloween and my kids couldn’t be happier! Can’t wait to share with you next week!
