Ladies Christmas
It’s been a longtime tradition in my family for all the women to get together for “tea” at Christmastime. The funny thing is…none of us are even tea drinkers! Punch, coffee, and in my case today, a little splash of champagne are usually served, but no tea is ever consumed. I think we call it “tea” because it sounds cozy and Christmassy and a bit fancy. We take turns hosting each year and this year it was mine and I couldn’t have been happier!
I absolutely love how everyone always seems to end up in the kitchen. Especially now that we have a bigger kitchen too! So fun to have lots of helping hands make it all come together.
This year was my first attempt at rolled up or “fancy” sandwiches as my Mom calls them. When I was growing up, my Mom always made them for special occasions, and I knew it would be a nice surprise for her if I made them. I decided to keep it simple with just two varieties: egg and cucumber & cream cheese. The egg ones, which I rolled, will definitely take some practice, but overall I think they turned out really well.
Ok…now it’s time to talk sweets! My favourite part!!! This year I made two different kinds of shortbread: one with Skor bits & the other with Toblerone chocolate. Seriously…this time of year shortbread is a food group for me! I also made ginger molasses cookies and lemon bars because everyone loves those!
I had so much fun preparing for this special day! It’s hard to believe this time last year we had only just moved in. What a difference! Feeling so settled in now & love being able to host & share our home with friends and family.
Although I haven’t been able to post as often as I’d like, I really love sharing my home and ideas with all of you! Stay tuned for more regular posts in the New Year! For now…enjoy this magical time of year & wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!
