DIY Painted Tile Backsplash
When we purchased our home 5 years ago, the kitchen wasn’t my favorite room in the house. I mean it was definitely an upgrade from our previous home, but esthetically just not me. I’ve been holding out for a kitchen renovation ever since, but with all this extra time at home, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I’m excited to share my DIY Painted Tile Backsplash with you and show just how easy it is to refresh your outdated kitchen tile.
What do you think?!? It’s light, bright and feels totally refreshed in here! I’m thrilled with how it turned out and wish I had done it sooner. Let’s take a look at the before and let me walk you through just how easy it was!
before:
Materials I used:
- Painters tape
- 2-inch paintbrush
- Foam roller
- Benjamin Moore Stix primer
- Benjamin Moore Regal Select paint
step one:
Wash tile with soapy water and rinse. No sanding required.
step two:
Remove outlet covers and tape off counter and/or walls.
step three:
Using paint brush, apply primer, cutting in around counter and outlets. Fill in and cover entire area using roller. Remove tape when set, about 30 mins. Let dry 24 hours.
Step four:
Repeat taping and apply paint as in steps 2 and 3. One coat of paint was all I needed but you may need more depending on the color you choose.
This DIY painted tile backsplash took just two days. It was such an easy update but I think it makes a big impact! I’m loving this bright, refreshed space and having so much fun styling it already.

I’m painting my kitchen backsplash, just wondering how yours is holding up. Also, did you paint your backsplash the same color as your cabinets?
It’s holding up perfectly Danielle! Really wish I had done it sooner and yes same colour as the cabinets.
