Tips For Brightening Up Your Home: Blog Hop
Hello friends! If you’re linking here from Kathleen over at Lindsay Hill Interiors then welcome and nice to meet you! For a long time before we found our house I dreamed of white walls, a white sofa, white kitchen…you get the idea. After we got the keys, we painted the whole main and upper floor white. Best decision ever! Even on a grey day, white walls are still crisp, clean and bright. There are lots of simple things you can do to brighten up your home right now!
Let that natural light come through! Heavy drapery can be cozy, but if you want that natural light to make it in, keep your window coverings light. Our house came with pretty basic wood-slat blinds. Every once in a while the wheels get turning and I think about adding curtains, but for now I’m loving the light and the simplicity.
I love using acrylic (lucite) and glass in my decor. I find that it takes up less visual space, allowing things to feel lighter and brighter. Even though our home is a good size, our kitchen and island area isn’t huge. These acrylic bar stools were the perfect solution! They fit perfectly under the island and don’t crowd the area.
In the living room we chose this glass waterfall table for a couple of reasons. Our sofa is the showstopper in the room and we didn’t want a heavy table competing with it. The lightness of the table allows you to see through to the cowhide rug, giving it a very seamless look. Adding the cloche and the glass candlesticks complement the look.
Of course you can’t go wrong with using mirrors and lamps wherever more light is needed. This sitting area in our master can be a bit dark, but adding the full length mirror and floor lamp give it a lighter, brighter and more open feel.
Okay let’s talk candles! I’m obsessed with them. Whether it’s a single candle on its own, a couple of pillars or a grouping of tealights…candles add the perfect touch of extra glow wherever you need it. And the yummy scent of your favourite candle burning just makes you feel good!
LED string and twinkle lights are a great way to add extra light and ambiance too. You can add them to your mantel, table scape, coffee table…just about anywhere! They’re a really simple and affordable way to add a touch of brightness where ever you need it and they look so pretty don’t you think?!? I’m so glad you stopped by and hope you found some inspiration for your own home. Next, head over to Janine at Happy Happy Nester for more great tips for brightening up your home!

I love that you painted everything white – so clean and fresh! And I also love your acrylic furniture and the tip about using mirrors…all genius!
Oh my goodness Judy! This is gorgeous!! Ok, I remember 2 summers ago walking into my friend’s new custom home they designed and built. I asked her when they were painting the walls and she said…nope they are staying this white. I was shocked! It seemed so foreign to me and then over the next couple of months I realized how genius it was and how on trend it was as well. I dream of all white walls now:-) Gorgeous!
Your lucite stools and glass table are BRILLIANT ideas! Wow, they really do open and brighten your space! And with that gorgeous rug (still swooning over it) with added texture and color it’s so nice to have that glass coffee table to keep it from looking busy and instead making it feel light. Everything is just lovely! I’m so glad you shared with us. Thanks so much for taking time to join us and for all the inspiration! Pinning away now!

Beautifully done Judy!
Love everything! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home and all of these amazing tips!
I agree with the walls painted white…there is just something so cozy about them. I’ve debated getting a few bamboo shades, but have had sheer or lightweight white curtain panels for years now and they seem to work just fine for letting light inside.
Great pics. Thanks for the tips.
I love the clean, contemporary style of you home, Judy! Those lucite barstools and that waterfall glass coffee table are to die for! I loved reading all of your great tips! Wonderful post!
Judy,
You have a beautiful home and I love how you used lucite to brighten the space. Brilliant idea! Also, your sofa and entry are gorgeous! We used to have a grand entry at our last home, but now we have a little space that doesn’t feel very welcoming. Thanks so much for nice introduction and also, thanks for the followers!
I love your Instagram!
