Casually Elegant Outdoor Living Space
Living in Vancouver on Canada’s west coast, our hot summer weather only lasts about 3 months out of the year. So if you’re a summer loving gal like me, you look forward to it all year long! Come June, we finally get to expand our living space outdoors, which is a very welcome change especially after the year we’ve had. We’re lucky to have a pool and a large yard that allows us to play and relax and we love hosting family and friends. Today I’m joining some blogger friends for the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Series and I’m excited to share our Casually Elegant Outdoor Living Space with you!
Our outdoor space is defined by three main areas: dining area (wood deck), loungers and conversation area (both on pool deck). We replaced our wood deck at the end of last season, so it was wonderful to have one less thing to think about when it came to getting the yard ready this year. We used a pressure-treated lumber and will stain it soon, hoping to preserve the light colour of the wood. We love having brunch out here in the summertime and eat dinner out here almost every night!
I added some new pots and flowers out here for the season using a neutral palette of white and green.
My summer flower go-to in containers is always geraniums. They come in so many colour varieties and just keep blooming all summer long. We’ve still got some work to do in the garden along the pool but I’m envisioning a row of white hydrangeas in our future!
The sectional is a new addition this year and it’s already becoming our fave spot for happy hour! The table that came with it was too high and large for our space, but I found this round concrete-style table that is a much better fit for our family. I added fresh flowers and an oversized candle to finish the look.
The loungers are another favourite spot of mine to have morning coffee or enjoy the afternoon sun! Easy-care polypropylene rugs are perfect for our weather.
I really enjoyed creating this Casually Elegant Outdoor Living Space for our family (with help from Mr. Life Is Better At Home). We’re looking forward to spending lots of time out here over the next couple of months! What a gorgeous space Judy! I love that round sofa table and, of course, your pool!!! You’ll definitely need it in our little heat wave! I hope you have lots of time to enjoy your beautiful backyard this summer.
Ahh the pool really saved us during the crazy heat Jenn! Thank you so much, happy summer 🙂
Such a lovely space to relax, swim and, most importantly, have drinks!
Ahh exactly Cassie!! Thank you so much and happy summer 🙂
I love your yard, Judy! Your pool is so pretty and I love your sectional and ottoman. What a pretty space. I pinned it to my outdoor board to share 🙂

Thanks Jo-Anna and yes we Canadians have to make the most of our summers don’t we?!? Enjoy!!
Beautiful yard, Judy! I love it with the swimming pool! And I love that sectional – I spotted it at CT and considered it for our house, but I’m holding off for a new set until next year, I think:)
Thank you so much Krista! We’re really happy with how the sectional worked out in our space. Cheers to summer!
