Custom Drapery: The Finishing Touch in our Master Bedroom
Homes take time, at least that’s what I’ve been telling myself since we moved into our new-to-us home almost 8 years ago. I may have impulse bought a couple of things I now regret, but overall I’ve been taking my time to create a home we love, one room at a time. Things have moved a little slower in the master bedroom and I think it’s because it’s not a room guests typically see and besides, the door can always be closed, right?1? Some recent updates include: my bedding, the office nook and a new rug. Adding custom drapery to our master bedroom is something I’ve been dreaming of since we first moved in. Today I’m sharing Custom Drapery: The Finishing Touch in our Master Bedroom with our new custom drapery from Q Design . I’ll be sharing our experience and all the pretty details!
*I received product in exchange for this post but as always, all opinions are an honest review of my experience.
Let’s take a look at the before. The basic wood slat blinds that were here when we moved in looked fine and gave us privacy, but were lacking the custom look and elegance I’ve been dreaming of in here.

Are you ready? Let’s look at how my custom drapery turned out!

WOW right!?! Before I share all the deets on the drapery and hardware we chose, let me introduce you to Q Design first. Q Design makes made to order drapery, shades, bench seats and toss pillows in their Mississauga, Ontario showroom. Lindsay and her Mom Marilyn have been creating custom window coverings together for over 20 years. They offer free design services and shipping within Canada and the Continental US. And for my US friends, all pricing is in Canadian dollars so that equals great savings for you!
One of the reasons I think I put choosing drapery off in here was because of the corner window. I’ve always been puzzled about what to do with it, but with the help of Q Design, I think we got it right! Lindsay suggested treating it like one window with a corner elbow rod piece and I love the seamless look it has now.
The fabric I chose for our drapery is called Bronx Linen in Pure. It’s very similar to my wall colour but has a subtle linen weave that adds just the right amount of texture that these windows were lacking. All drapery comes with a choice of cotton or blackout lining and we chose cotton because we still want some filtered light to come through. Choosing fabric was easy with Q Design samples. Their design team is there to help with fabric selection but nothing beats seeing the fabric in your own space and lighting. Sign up for their newsletter HERE and receive 5 free samples to get you started on your project!
Now, lets talk about this gorgeous one inch luxe satin brass hardware! It adds a richness and elegance that pairs perfectly with other satin brass elements I have in the room. We chose a top tack pleat for our drapery with rings and I like how it all gives an elegant feel that’s not too formal.
Here is the other window and my little sitting area. Ordering was so easy! Simply enter your window and wall measurements into their convenient measuring form and Q Design does the rest., ensuring a perfect fit! Mounting the drapery close to the ceiling draws your eyes up and I cant believe how much more spacious it feels in here now.
